I can not tell you how excited I am to share this tutorial with you.
I know you have seen these patches floating around pinterest...
I originally found a link through thee but it was not in English.
I thought I would write up my own post in English with just a few changes that I thought helped me!
I also want you to know I did not use a sewing machine for this project
Supplies needed:
- jeans with holes!
- fusible interfacing
- scissors
- needle and thread (i used floss)
- red fabric for inside of mouth (any color could be used)
- felt for teeth
- a type of Stitch Witchery or Wonder Under (I used both for different pants and both worked great!)
- iron / ironing board
- remove all strings from hole to clean it up a little.
- cut out the red fabric about 1 inch larger than your hole
- iron on the fusible interfacing to the back of the red fabric
- cut strips of felt slightly longer than the hole but only about half as deep.
- cut out the shape of the teeth, remember to not shorten the length
- sew your teeth to the red fabric. i just hand stitched a straight line
- close up of hand stitch
- place your pant leg inside out. place teeth side down over hole. making sure that the hand stitch line is not showing through. Place small strips of wonder under/stitch witchery around the edges to secure the red fabric to the pant. make sure that you do not cover he whole as you will see the sticky adhesive. Iron in place
- flip pant legs right side out
Admire your handy work so far!
- using a blue, black, brown, thread hand stitch a straight line around your hole to prevent the fabric from coming off.
- cut out your eyes from the felt, using the stitch witchery/wonder under, iron the eyes to the jeans to secure them.
- using your dark thread again sew your eyeballs. You can have fun here and make them silly. I like the wonky eye look.
- you are finished. Post pics on your blog/Facebook and brag about your work
but i did, and i am proud, I have no shame people!
If you have any questions please let me know.
If you try this tutorial I would love to see your finished product!

Is step three (adhering the fusible webbing to the back of the red fabric) just to reinforce the red felt?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
